"You don't need to have it all figured out to move forward...just take the next step."
Fees are based on the Fee Schedule provided by the Psychologist Association of Alberta. Service fees are due at the end of each session. There is no GST charge on Psychological/Counselling services.
Any formal reporting or requests by clients or 3rd parties (e.g., insurance companies, lawyers) will be billed at the hourly rate.
* Sliding scale options are available at the therapists discretion. Please speak to them directly about any fee adjustment requests.
When booking appointments with our Registered Psychologists, most plans cover some or all of the cost of services. However, it is best to check with your specific carrier as we don’t have direct access to your plan; please note that insurance policies vary in terms of who is authorized to provide the service. Some plans will also allow direct billing but others will ask for you to submit the claim after you’ve paid for the session. Additionally, some employers have Health Spending Accounts through which you can claim the uncovered portion of your sessions via that account.
It is important for you to verify coverage regarding your policy with your insurance company, preferably before booking if you are depending on coverage. It is your responsibility to understand the limitations of your plan. VERY IMPORTANT: You, not your insurance company, are responsible for full payment of the session fees including no show/late cancelations and any additional service fees, such as writing a report and so on.
Direct billing is available through Canada Life/Great West Life, Blue Cross (including Medavie, Vetrans Affairs, Blue Shield, RCMP, Canadian Armed Forces, and ASEBP), and Green Shield when booking with a Registered Psychologist.
If you aren’t sure about your coverage, please contact your benefits provider directly for that information.
Sessions are payable through cash, e-transfer, and credit card* (Mastercard, Visa, American Express).
E-transfers must be received by the end of your session day or the credit card on file will be charged. Receipts will be issued after payment and can be submitted to your healthcare insurance benefits provider for reimbursement.
Please note that Mindful Lotus's payment policy requires a valid credit card on file to be used as back-up to cover the cost of any fees associated with late cancellations and no shows. All information will be securely stored within a confidential database designed for psychology practices. Once entered, your credit card information will be redacted to ensure maximum confidentiality.
* Fees for psychological services are considered tax deductible under the health care expenses on your income tax return. Make sure yo save a copy of your receipts for submission.
You will have the option to receive a reminder email 48 hours and 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment as well as a remainder text 24 hours and 4 hours before your appointment.
What happens if I am going to be late to my appointment? This happens, so please still come! Just let your therapist know that you will be arriving late so they know to expect you. If you arrive late for your session, you and your counsellor will still have the session up to the time that was reserved for you. You will be billed from the time the session was originally scheduled to start.
If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please notify your counsellor by phone or e-mail, as discussed with your counsellor on your first session. Our cancellation policy requires 24 hours notice. If you cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment, you will not be charged for the missed appointment. However, if you do not cancel 24 hours before your appointment or do not show up for your scheduled appointment, then you will be billed for the full session. With that said, we do understand that life happens and we can’t necessarily predict when an emergency may occur. In these unique circumstances we do our best to extend grace and accommodate our client’s situation. Additionally, you have the option to change your session to a TeleHealth appointment; please inform your therapist directly if you would like to change your session type.
Please note, many insurance companies and government funding counselling services do not pay late cancellation/missed session appointment fees, so you will be responsible to pay the cancellation/missed session fee.
